Where is Jesus in the Old Testament?

I am learning to listen to what Jesus says in the Bible. New concept? Not really. Everyone knows that Jesus is the Word. But seriously, when my pastor said that he trains younger pastors how to find Jesus in every passage of the Old and New Testament I was floored. I looked at Genesis 1 and found the Spirit of God and God and a hint of Jesus "Let us make man in our own image", but that was about it. So I gave up for a while.

Then I researched the anabaptist hermenuetic (style of interpreting the Bible) and found that the tradition of my denomination is to view all of scripture through the lens of Jesus. In other words, how would Jesus have re-interpreted that Old Testament scripture passage in kingdom life--that we now enjoy after His death and resurrection.

I look at a passage of scripture and first ask the Holy Spirit to infill me and enlarge my mind and spirit to understand it correctly. Then I compare the content to the teachings of Jesus. How has he fulfilled the concept or how is He revealed in the event?

Its quite astonishing to read the Old Testament with this new perspective. I am overwhelmed with gratitude that this always highlights the freedom we have in Jesus Christ. May He continue to be exalted and glorified in my life.
